Artist Statement

I use material culture to consider aspects of ephemerality, entropy, pleasure and pain; focusing on the global migration of culture and technology as seen through the lens of textiles. Found and collected textiles form the basis of labor intensive, context-sensitive sculptural installations and discrete pieces; visually dynamic mash-ups, open to multiple readings. My work can be described as a form of domestic archeology, often engaging architecture and other more intimate forms of material culture. Through a process of accumulation and excavation I create and reveal relationships between disparate elements. I research the ways that people and materials relocate, transforming environments over time. By considering the ways in which stylistic motifs and historical techniques morph and migrate within societies, I aim to challenge hierarchies of taste and class, beauty and ugliness.

About the Easton Pribble Lecture Series

The mission of the Easton Pribble Visiting Artist Lecture Series is to invite guests who represent a variety of creative disciplines and bring diversity of perspectives to inspire, motivate, and challenge the students of Pratt Munson College of Art and Design. The Pribble Lecture Series Committee is dedicated to constantly re-evaluating the breadth of artists and designers they invite each year so that they may be proactive in amplifying voices and illuminating career pathways historically and presently marginalized within the art and design worlds. By inviting leaders in their field to speak about their current work and creative thought process, the visiting artists participate in a dialogue with the Pratt Munson community, enriching the experience of first-year and sophomore BFA students during their time here in Utica before they complete their education at Pratt Institute’s Brooklyn campus. All talks are free and open to the public.
